Questions we get asked

How many plants do I need for my fence?

Measure the run and divide it by the spacing on the listing. Every plant gives you three options — tight for the fastest cover, standard, and wide for individual trees — with the number of plants a 10 metre run takes at each. As a rough guide, lilly pilly and pittosporum run about one per metre for a screen and closer for a dense hedge, Japanese box goes four to six per metre for a low hedge, and trees sit two to five metres apart depending on how wide they get.

Closer planting closes the gap sooner and costs more up front. Wider planting gets there eventually for less. Both work — it depends on how long you are willing to look at a gap.

How big will the plant actually be when it arrives?

Every listing gives the pot size and the height at supply, so you know what turns up rather than what it might be in five years. A 200mm pot is a plant you carry in one hand; a 250mm is one you carry in two.

How fast will it grow?

Every listing gives a figure in centimetres or metres per year rather than the word "fast", because "fast" means different things to a nursery and a customer. Pittosporum Screen Master is the quickest reliable screen we sell at up to a metre a year. Japanese box is the slowest at 10 to 30 centimetres.

Will it survive an Adelaide summer?

Most of what we stock is chosen for exactly that. Each listing has a "Growing it in Adelaide" section covering position, soil, water, frost and how it handles the heat — including the ones that need real watering, because pretending otherwise just kills plants.

Will the roots damage my pipes or paving?

For most of what we sell, no. Where it is a genuine consideration the listing says so plainly and tells you what to do about it. If you are planting near a sewer, a pool or a paved area and you are not sure, ask us before you dig.

What if a plant doesn't make it?

If something arrives damaged, send a photo the same day and we will replace it or refund it. Beyond that, tell us what happened and where it was planted. Plants die for all sorts of reasons and not all of them are anybody's fault, but we would rather hear about it and help you work out why than have you quietly never come back.

Can I pay cash?

Yes. Cash on delivery is an option at checkout, alongside card and PayPal. A lot of people prefer to see a plant before paying for it and we have no problem with that.

Do I need to be home for the delivery?

No. Leave delivery instructions at checkout and we will put them somewhere sensible and out of the wind.

Do you deliver to my area?

Put your postcode in at checkout. If a delivery option appears, we come to you — and you will see the price and the delivery day for your area on the same screen. If nothing appears, we do not currently serve that postcode. Message us and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth a trip.

Can I pick up instead?

We deliver only. Everything comes to you, placed where you want it.

Do you plant them for me?

We deliver and place them where you want them, but we do not plant. Every listing tells you how to do it — and for most of these plants it is a hole, a good soak and some mulch.
