Flowers right through the hottest part of summer, when almost nothing else is. Big crinkled heads of dark fuchsia-pink from late summer into autumn, fiery orange-red autumn leaves, then smooth peeling bark through winter. Bred for mildew resistance and made for Adelaide's heat.
Why you'll love it
- Summer colour — in full flower when most of the garden has stopped.
- Mildew-resistant — bred to stay clean.
- Water-wise — one of the most drought-tolerant trees you can plant.
- Loves Adelaide soil — alkaline is no problem.
- Four seasons — flower, autumn colour, peeling bark, red-tinged spring growth.
Best for
- A feature tree in a front garden
- Summer colour in a hot dry corner
- Verge and street planting
- Light shade over a seating area
