The white crepe myrtle, and the one with the best bark of all. Pure white flower heads from mid-summer into autumn, orange-red autumn leaves, and smooth cinnamon-brown bark that peels to show the trunk off through winter. Bred for mildew resistance and completely at home in Adelaide's heat.
Why you'll love it
- Summer flowers — clean white when the garden needs it most.
- That bark — cinnamon-brown and peeling — the winter feature.
- Mildew-resistant — bred to stay clean.
- Water-wise — very low water once established.
- Loves Adelaide soil — alkaline is no problem.
Best for
- A feature tree in a front garden
- Light shade over a seating area
- Verge and street planting
- Hot dry corners
