Instant formality. A clipped ball of glossy evergreen foliage on a clean straight stem — a matched pair either side of a door or gate transforms an entrance.
Why you'll love it
- Fast — fills out quickly and bounces straight back from a clip.
- Happy in shade — one of the few formal plants that thrives out of full sun.
- Holds its shape — two or three trims a year keep it crisp.
- Made for pots — in a large pot the roots stay contained and a pair can move wherever you want them.
- Tough — poor soil, alkaline soil and Adelaide summers are all fine.
Best for
- Matched pairs at an entry
- Pots on a terrace or beside the pool
- Formal courtyards
- Container screening along a boundary
